HRG wins (again) at Summer Convention

Radio and television broadcasters from all over Virginia gathered in Virginia Beach June 21-23 for the annual Virginia Association of Broadcasters 81st Annual Summer Convention, and your local Harrisonburg Radio Group was honored by two station members graduating from the 2017-18 VAB “Best of the Best” Leadership Class and six VAB Broadcast Awards.

Q101’s award-winning afternoon host Brandy Lindsay and HRG Senior Sales Executive Nancy Dickerson worked with separate teams of broadcasters from around the Commonwealth to make their final group presentations to the VAB membership Friday morning, completing their year-long “Best of the Best” experience.  JR, HRG Operations Manager and host of WSIG’s award-winning morning show, served as an adviser for a third team.

Harrisonburg Radio Group was well represented at the VAB Annual Awards Dinner on Friday evening, bringing six awards back to the Valley.  Brandy accepted Best Station Contest honors for Q101’s creation of last December’s 12 Days of Christmas holiday giveaway and WSVA’s Frank Wilt accepted awards on behalf of the station for Best Commercial (created for Overhead Door Company) and Outstanding News Series for his program Spotlight on Valley Agriculture.

But stealing the show was the triple play scored by HRG’s Real Country WSIG.  JR and Ivy Lee accepted first place awards for the execution of the 2017 Up on a Roof King Photo/Blue Ridge Area Food Bank fundraiser in the Best Community Event category, the WSIG Wall of Honor saluting members of our Armed Forces in the Best Station Promotion group, and for the second year in a row, they won top honors for The Real Country Morning Show, which was awarded Virginia’s Best Morning Show!

Congratulations to the entire Team at Harrisonburg Radio Group on a tremendously successful 2017-18 year.  Most importantly, a great big Thank You goes out to HRG’s fantastic advertisers and the wonderful listeners who support them. You make it all possible!
