Broadcasters For Blood 2020

Join Harrisonburg Radio Group as we team up with the American Red Cross for Broadcasters for Blood 2020!┬áCome donate Friday, August 14th from 12pm – 7pm at the Valley Mall in Harrisonburg in front of JC Penney! Appointments are strongly encouraged and can be made at redcrossblood.org using sponsor code RADIO.

There will be free food throughout the blood drive!

PLUS DID WE MENTION PRIZES? All donors will receive a door prize which includes a free t-shirt and coupons from McDonalds and Sweet Frog! All donors will also get a $5 Amazon e-gift card and will get entered into a raffle for a chance to win a pair of JMU Football tickets.

Why donate blood? In recent weeks, hospital demand for blood products has grown by 30% after sharply declining in early April amid this rapidly changing and complex public health crisis. At the same time, blood drives continue to be canceled as many businesses and community organizations remain closed. There is no known end date in this fight against coronavirus, and the Red Cross urgently needs the help of donors and blood drive hosts to ensure blood products are readily available for patients.

Plus, all donors will have their blood tested for COVID-19 Antibodies. Results within 7-10 days available on the Red Cross Donor App.

Who Can Donate:
o We are urging anyone who is healthy to come give blood.
o If you are not feeling well, please stay home and come donate once you are feeling better and are symptom free.
o 16 y/o can donate with parental permission. 16 y/o must fill out a parental permission form which can be found at redcrossblood.org.

Is Donating Blood Safe?
o Yes, donating blood is a safe procedure that is done via strict FDA guidelines.
o To keep donors safe during this pandemic, you will see a handful of practices such as:

  • Temperature checks at the door
  • All donors are required to wear face coverings
  • Red Cross staff will be in gloves and masks
  • All donors are kept 6 feet or more apart while waiting and donating
  • Disinfecting high-touch surfaces in between each donor
